| I'm not sure if this is in the right place (sorry ) but I wanted to get a thread up for discussing the progress on the ULTRAMARINES movie. Here is the link to their blog/website with the first concept drawings. Comments and news are welcome! Cheers, Rad _________________ www.modelbits.co.uk - 40K and Fantasy bits hot off the sprue! | Hmmm, twill be interesting to see how this develops although personally I agree with Dinadan on the choice of chapter. _________________ "Ignorance breeds monsters to fill up the vacancies of the soul that are unoccupied by the verities of knowledge"p.s - My avatar is a piece done by a friend of mine - you can find her deviantART page here |

| I think choosing Smurfs was a good idea (and I'm the biggest smurf hater there is). Remember, this film isn't just aimed at people familiar with 40k so they need to choose a chapter that shows the true, pure Space Marines when they are following the Astartes. If they based it on Space Wolves or Relictors etc. then those unfamiliar with 40k would get very confused due to all their mixed backgrounds so choosing a bog standard chapter was the best thing for the film and it's aims in my opinion (to grab non gamers attention). _________________ Regards, Jake. |

| That's a fair point RC, but they could easily have made their own Chapter up - remember the Blood Ravens didn't enter cannon until after the DoW games were released. There are many Codex Chapters besides the Smurfs, and anyone of them would be a good choice, and even chosing Chapters with a minor divergence from Codex could work - the Imperial Fists, the Raven Guard, The Iron Hands and the Crimson Fists are all Chapters that would work just aswell on film for those unfamiliar with 40k as the Smurfs and would have the added bonus of not drawing the ire of 40k fans. _________________ | House wrote: | | Religion isn't the opium of the masses, it's the placebo. |

| Well to be fair more people love Smurfs than those who agree with us, and that's the surprising thing. Besides, they're GWs favourite so of course it will be about them. It'd be nice to see Crimson Fists retake GWs love though, they used to be their favourite _________________ Regards, Jake. |

| Well to be honest, they're probably favourite because they're the default Chapter for GW, so most newbies and n00bs have Smurfs shoved down their throats when they start up (as I recall, Smurfs have been in the starter set for two editions of the game), whereas vets and those who've read the books know there's more to Marines than the smurfs and are drawn to Chapters that take their interest (e.g. Fen is drawn to Space Wolves because of his love of Wolves, I'm drawn to Thousand Sons because their fluff tied in with the fluff of the general for my WH Fantasy Chaos army, etc). _________________ | House wrote: | | Religion isn't the opium of the masses, it's the placebo. |
